Colorless Diamonds versus Color Diamonds

Diamond is a jewel that everybody loves no matter the look. But depending on the taste and preferences of people, many individuals opt for colorless diamonds.

There is a misconception that colorless white transparent diamond sparkles more than colored diamond do. Hence, people prefer the former. However, as pointed out by the experts at Talore Diamonds , sparkling has no relation with the color; rather; it depends on cut and clarity.

Grading for Colorless Diamond

The Gemological Institute of America, to grade colorless white diamond, developed a system from D to Z where D refers to most white and Z represent white diamond with a brown or yellow tint. As we move along the scale from D to Z, the color saturation increases, and when we transcend Z, then we move into a range called Fancy Colored Diamond.

Grading in Colored Diamonds

While ranking in colorless white diamond is divided from D-Z, in case of colored diamonds, the scale includes Fancy vivid, fancy deep, fancy intense, fancy dark, fancy, fancy light, light, very light and faint. This scale is followed for all the colored diamonds as colored diamonds have a range of intensities and saturation.

Value of Diamond

The rarity of the diamond determines the value of the diamond in the market. In nature, the colorless diamonds are scarce and highly sought after. This is precisely why they are considered expensive. However, the diamonds with brown or yellowish tints are commonly found and are valued according. But that does not mean that colorless diamonds are cheaper, some of the naturally colored diamonds are costly too, as they are rarely found. For example, a green-colored diamond and pink argyle diamond are colored diamonds that are significantly expensive.

Note that both colored diamonds and colorless diamonds are ideal for jewelry – earrings, bracelets, pendants, and diamond engagement rings .
